Marlborough is known for its Sauvignon Blanc, which is sold in every wine shop in America. I’ve discovered that the Pinot Noir is equally lovely, and would not say no to a sparkling Syrah, especially when served with NZ oyster.
We drove from the ferry town of Picton to Renwick, and stayed at a perfect little place called Hillsfield B&B. It was recommended by friends (C & J: we looked for you in the Guest Book, but it was probably too long ago!). Won made friends with the resident wildlife.
Grape growing and wine making seems to be a family endeavor here, and every winery has a story of immigration from the Old World (Switzerland, Germany, France), followed by generations of offspring carrying on the business. We rented bikes and made our way from one vineyard to another.
We are headed down to Wellington tomorrow, then on by ferry to the South Island.
