On the road
On the road
We have been hogging the right lane for 670 miles. Turns out, a studio apartment on wheels does not go very fast, guzzles gasoline, and rattles and creaks like the thing might come apart at any moment. But she has been a trooper, and we are just about through Utah, land of gargantuan American flags and steep red cliffs.
Won and I stand out a little in the trailer park. Our rig is dwarfed by the surrounding motorhomes…
Some RVs are as large as passenger buses, with pull-outs and other extensions. It seems that most people don’t intend to be nomadic at all, and park for months, decorating their spots with door mats, potted plants, and wind chimes.
It is endless fun to speculate on who owns what RV. Our neighbors all seem to be retirement age. I’m guessing our peers are boondocking on public land somewhere, or stealth-camping for free on city streets. I’m too much of a rule follower to be able to relax if I know I’m skirting public ordinances.
The best part of RV life is the home cooking. We have a mini Instapot, and can whip up gourmet meals on the road. Thai chicken curry with brown rice, beef stew with sweet potato, kale and sausage rice, jambalaya, and chili and arugula salad are on the menu. Won says cooking in this tiny kitchen is like “playing Tetris,” but the results are pretty delicious.
Tomorrow: onward toward Yellowstone.
