On the Road Again
On the Road Again
Some 940 miles from Wenatchee, we are bedding down for the night at a campground in Sevier, UT, completely off the grid. I have a wee dram of Balvenie 12 year in hand, as we wait for our Instapot dinner to be ready. Chicken noodle soup from scratch tonight.
Our home and transport this trip is a 2021 Winnebago Revel, on rent from Kellville Vans in Salt Lake City. Won has been impressed with the way the Mercedes chassis handles, and all the mechanical and technical gizmos (lithium batteries, solar power, 4WD). I appreciate the thoughtful, and sometimes ingenious, use of small spaces. They managed to fit a bathroom with hot shower and toilet, a queen sized bed, a kitchen galley, and a comfortable dinette in a 19ft campervan.
It always amazes me how big the states of WA, OR, and ID are, and how giant swathes of land are untouched, undeveloped, and beautiful. We listened to Stephen Fry reading the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on audiobook, playlists heavy on Dishwalla, and several Ezra Klein podcasts ranging from the philosophy of Calvinism to the US response to COVID19.
We also made a pilgrimage to the closest In-N-Out Burger to Wenatchee: 200 miles away in Salt Lake City.

Awake with the sun on a chilly autumn morning at Castle Rock Campground, to find that we are parked at the foot of a great red rock formation, under several brilliant yellow trees. The Revel is toasty and warm, the coffee is strong. We are on our way to Bryce Canyon National Park today.
